Colonial Office

13th August 1860

My Lord,

I beg leave to acknowledge the receipt of your Lordship's order of the 8th instant, returned herewith.

Reference is made to a letter from the Colonial Office, with a copy of a Despatch from the Governor of Hong Kong, reporting the suspension from Office of Mr. Henry Gunthorpe, the second and late Acting Chief Clerk in the Harbour Master's Office, for being guilty while in charge of the Department (in consequence of the illness of Mr. Newman, the Acting Harbour Master) of neglect and misconduct, which led to defalcation in the public Revenue.

In his letter to Mr. Hamilton, the Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury were forwarded the papers by Sir Frederick Rogers.
